Middlesbrough claim late win at Brentford

Middlesbrough claimed a dramatic 2-1 victory over Brentford in the first leg of their Championship play-off semi-final .

Substitute Fernando Amorebieta drilled in a stoppage time winner to ruin Mark Warburton’s last game in charge at Griffin Park.

During an evenly contested first half Middlesbrough sought to disrupt and frustrate the home side, picking up four yellow cards in the process. The goal, an expertly guided header into the bottom corner from Jelle Vossen, came against the run of play but was testament to the gameplan of Aitor Karanka’s side.

Alan Judge had earlier hit the post with Brentford’s best effort, while Vossen saw an effort from six yards brilliantly clawed out by David Button.
