Leicester took a giant step towards Premier League survival with a resounding 2-0 win over Southampton at the King Power Stadium..
Two first-half strikes from Riyad Mahrez helped open up a three point gap between Nigel Pearson’s team and Hull City in 18th.
Southampton may have dominated possession throughout the first half but they were far too passive against a Leicester team that looked constantly dangerous on the break. Riyad Mahrez was the star of the half, scoring a spectacular solo effort in the seventh minute, before firing past Paulo Gazzaniga from six yards to double Leicester’s lead 12 minutes later.
The pattern of the second half followed much of the first, with the Saints unable to break down a resilient and well drilled Leicester side.
